Deep Run Presbyterian Church

The project was done while I worked at GJDonovan and Associates in Doylestown, now Bedminster.

The church had an existing sanctuary and older classroom wing (far end in photo). The public everyday entry was always from a rear parking lot, but as the church grew, a fire stair door on the rear parking lot became the primary non-sanctuary entrance.

The congregation asked for a new entry, library and classroom wings to better reflect their growth and place in the community. We opted for a more central entry in keeping with the symmetry of the sanctuary and matched the overall colonial architectural style. The new Fellowship Hall entry allows a sheltered arrival and a more formal image and importantly, a new public entrance on the main parking lot (also expanded), while the entry style comes directly from a typical colonial entry common to older homes in the area.

This hall now gives the church a gathering space for the larger congregation with a small stage for pageants and events, a catering kitchen, and room for public events. The room over the formal entry is a vaulted ceiling library to enhance their growing educational and outreach efforts, and coincidentally has terrific acoustics for informal choir practice. A small stage in the downstairs gathering hall has become a central focus for children's and other theatrical events.
